'Communities Speak' report focuses on long-term affordable housing
Posted November 19, 2009 - The Housing Network of Ontario has released "Communities Speak: A Summary of the 2009 Provincial Housing Consultations." The report reflects government-led consultations held between June and November with housing providers, tenants, agency staff, private landlords, and low-income people in housing need.

Legal Aid Ontario announces web site redesign
Posted November 17, 2009 - Legal Aid Ontario has announced a redesign of its web site. New features include a "Where to Start" tool on the homepage; an interactive Legal Aid office and community legal clinic locator, including maps and transit directions; and an "Other Resources" page, with links to agencies, social services, and crisis centres.

Report says children routinely held in immigration detention, despite law
Posted November 17, 2009 - Despite legislation that says that children are to be detained only as a measure of last resort, the Canadian Council for Refugees has published a report that shows that detention of children is not limited to exceptional circumstances and that their best interests are not always considered.

SickKids, Pro Bono Law Ontario launch family health legal program
Posted November 12, 2009 - Pro Bono Law Ontario and The Hospital for Sick Children have launched the Family Legal Health Program to offer legal assistance that addresses the non-medical issues that may impact a child's health or a family's capacity to care for a sick child. The partnership is the first of its kind in Canada, and features a free legal service located at SickKids.
