Government to hold consultations on immigration priorities
Posted July 4, 2008 - The Minister of Citizenship and Immigration has released details of consultations that will be held on Canada's immigration priorities, following the recent changes to immigration legislation under Budget Bill C-50. Consultations will focus on identifying critical occupational shortages, the role of immigration in responding to them, and barriers to foreign credential accreditation.

Caledon Institute releases paper on improving education on reserves
Posted July 3, 2008 - The Caledon Institute has released a paper that recommends a new legal framework for First Nations schools and describes a federal statute which would enable reserves to join together to form First Nations educational authorities while setting out the mutual responsibilities of First Nations and the federal government.

Rights advocates urge provincial government to keep commitments on new human rights process
Posted July 3, 2008 - At a recent news conference, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act Alliance and the Metro Toronto Chinese and Southeast Asian Legal Clinic questioned whether the provincial government can keep the pledges it made on Bill 107 and urged people who may have a discrimination case to test the new system.

Survey to assess experiences of people with disabilities at Ontario's tribunals
Posted July 3, 2008 - ARCH Disability Law Centre is asking for assistance with the distribution of a survey that it has developed to assess the barriers for people with disabilities at the Workplace Safety and Appeals Insurance Tribunal, the Social Benefits Tribunal, and the Landlord and Tenant Board.
