Just say no...to smart sub-metering!

Has your landlord asked you to agree to take on electricity bills?

This fact sheet deals with the effect of an Ontario Energy Board decision on unauthorized sub-metering of rental units. It answers tenants' questions about agreements to pay directly for electricity in exchange for a rent reduction, refunds of money paid to a sub-metering company, and bills that have not been paid. There are also form letters that tenants can use to confirm the lawful rent for their unit and to recover money already paid to a sub-metering company.
