Powers of Attorney and Substitute Decision-Making Authorities
Recorded on May 27, 2010, (67 minutes). This webinar is Part II of a two-part review of issues related to mental capacity and substitute decision making, presented by Judith Wahl of the Advocacy Centre for the Elderly (ACE). The webinar reviews what a power of attorney (POA) is, the different types of POAs, why you may want to prepare a POA, how to prepare a POA, when and why a POA comes into effect, what happens if you haven't prepared a POA, and the authority of the attorney named in a POA. It has information on other substitute decision-making authorities, including statutory guardianship and court-ordered guardianship, and who can be substitute decision maker for health care when there is no POA for Personal Care.
